Howard begins the show by checking in with The Next’s Washington Mystics reporter, Jenn Hatfield, who reports on the Mystics’ 68-64 upset of the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday. Megdal discusses what that result and other recent surprising finishes from around the league tell us about the top contenders.
“No team is safe,” Megdal said. “A WNBA where anyone can beat anyone on a given day, but still has some elite teams, is kind of the perfect balance for the way Cathy Engelbert would want things to happen.”

Next, Jensen joins the show and recounts the highs and lows from her first season as Iowa’s head coach. According to her, it almost felt like a blur because of how much information came flying at her throughout the season and how quickly she was forced to process it all.
Megdal and Jensen also talked about Jensen ushering the Hawkeyes into a completely new era following the departures of Clark and Bluder. Not only was Jensen able to coach the Hawkeyes to another winning season, but she did so in front of sold-out crowds nightly at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
“The fact of the matter that every available ticket that could be sold was sold, that was a moment,” Jensen said. “And then I think what that told my players, too, is that we are part of something special. Iowa women’s basketball is a special program with a special tradition.”
