“A lot of my family were women’s basketballers, so I was always around the women’s game,” Terrell explains to Speer. “I went to school about 45 minutes away from the University of South Carolina … and Dawn Staley got there my senior year of college … and she changed the entire trajectory of the state. She built it from a program that was a laughingstock to one of the premier programs.”

Terrell and Speer go on to talk more about his special relationship with the South Carolina program. “The most important thing to me about Dawn is the way she embraces everyone,” Terrell says. “She pours into so many people, we always see that she’s an amazing coach.”
Later on, Speer and Terrell discuss Team USA’s defeat of Germany in a recent exhibition game, and specifically focus on the dominant performance of A’ja Wilson. “They’re going to be, I feel, very dominant during this [tournament],” Terrell says. “Even though they have what some may consider a really tough road to the gold medal. They’re in what’s called the ‘group of death,’ … but I still think USA is the favorite by double digits.”
