Locked on Women’s Basketball: The WBL, legends of pro women’s basketball we must hear from

'Our mission is to promote the historic and social relevance of the WBL to inspire future generations'

It’s time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast. This episode features host Howard Megdal and Elizabeth Galloway McQuitter, the great WBL trailblazer and President of Legends of The Ball.

Elizabeth Galloway McQuitter talks about why she created Legends of The Ball:

“Well, Howard, we were inducted as Trailblazers of the game. And 28 Ball Hall of Fame, after the induction it became very clear to us that not enough, very little was known about our league and the women that made up that league (12) of us were inspired to tell that story. So Legends of The Ball Inc was born. And our mission is to promote the historic and social relevance of the WBL to inspire future generations.”

Elizabeth speaks about the nickname ” Bandit,” who gave her the nickname and why:

“Yes, the late Les Grobstein and I say that so painfully. We just lost him in January, who was our radio guy called every hustle game and he actually had called some of the Chicago Sky games before they stopped with the radio games, gave me that nickname.

And I led the league in steals the first year and it was just, I call it the art of the steal. It was something I took a lot of pride in. And I actually went on to teach how to steal the ball so that was how I got that nickname from Les Grobstein.”
