Coach Coquese Washington talks about building her program at Rutgers:

“Well, first, let me just say thanks, Howard, for having me. Really excited to chat with you about records, our process, and the things we’re going through. Following the footsteps of coach Muffet McGraw, who’s a Hall of Fame coach. It’s not easy to follow in the footsteps of a Hall of Fame coach and a coach who had so much success.

Look at all the things being at Rutgers University can provide in terms of success on the court. I’m going to do it in ways that are authentic to me. But at the end of the day, we want to have the same type of results in terms of conference success and national success that both coach Vivian Stringer and coach Grace before me had with this program.”

Coquese Washington talks about how well her staff has been received from coaches in New Jersey:

“It’s been great, you know, the reception that our staff has received so far from the coaches in the state of New Jersey has been phenomenal. And fortunately, I have such a dynamic staff that they know a lot of the coaches in the area, they have relationships with them and so they’re building on those relationships. But the excitement around our staff coming here has been really high.

And right now, it’s not so much about identifying a specific player or this player, that player. It’s really about building the relationship so that the coaches in the state know that we’re accessible, that we’ll be in their gyms and at their games.”
