Locked on Women’s Basketball: Diamond Miller and Napheesa Collier won’t let Minnesota Lynx lose

Howard and Terry discuss the dynamic duo of Diamond Miller and Napheesa Collier — Minnesota playing well as of late

It’s time for another Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast episode. Nobody told Diamond Miller and Napheesa Collier this was a rebuilding season for the Minnesota Lynx, and the two have played like a precocious rookie and elite superstar, respectively, as Cheryl Reeve’s group keeps on playing well. Host Howard Megdal is joined by The Next‘s Minnesota Lynx beat reporter Terry Horstman to discuss how Minnesota has exceeded expectations so far and what it all means for the future of the Lynx.

Terry talks about the Minnesota Lynx’s expectations before the season and now:

“Is anyone really going to be that surprised if a team with Cheryl Reeve and Napheesa Collier makes the WNBA playoffs? It felt like everyone had written that off. And I still don’t know totally what my expectations are. But I think, when the season started, and they lost their first six games, everyone’s like, okay, you can pencil in the Lynx to be in last place. But I think when you sort of look at the behind the curtain a little bit and actually see how those games played out. A lot of them were figuring things out. And one of those players was Diamond Miller.”

Terry talks about Diamond Miller’s game and coming back from injury — having an incredible game last night against Seattle:

“I think no one is really shocked to see Diamond do the things she did last night and that win against Seattle. But for her to have been that good that fast coming off the injury. Even if she was completely healthy, at least you’d expect some rust after nearly a month off. But she was fantastic right away, and the Lynx came out and had their best quarter of the season offensively in the first quarter of that game and Diamond spacing was a big part of it. So that really showed what they’ve been missing.”
