The two started the conversation by noting Texas’s Big 12 championship-winning 2022-23 season despite missing key players.

“We were down to three guards for three positions,” Schaefer said. “And still we’re able to close out our conference season and win a Big 12 championship. You know, here at Texas, I mean, it’s hard to believe they haven’t done that in 20 years. … I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish here in a really short period of time.“

Schaefer and Megdal also discussed expectations for the 2023-24 season at length, including how junior guard Rori Harmon will pair with the Longhorns’ freshman class.

“First of all, I think we need to establish the fact there’s not another player in the country like Rori Harmon,” Schaefer said. “Nobody picks up 94 feet, guards your butt, makes you uncomfortable, establishes tempo defensively, like Rori Harmon. Then you put her on the offensive end, and she runs your team. She makes sure everybody’s in the right place doing the right thing. You have to guard her because she is absolutely a scoring threat at all three levels, sees the floor extremely well. So I may be partial, but I’ve also been around a long time. You’re welcome to find me another player like her. Because I don’t think there is.”
