The Dallas Wings started off free agency the right way. After one of her best seasons in the WNBA, Allisha Gray will remain in Dallas. The team announced Monday morning that they have re-signed Gray to a multi-year contract.

Per HerHoopStats, her contract is for three years at $160,000, $164,800, and $169,600 with all three years protected.

This is a significant resign for Dallas. Gray now going into her fifth season is the longest tenured player on the team along with Kayla Thornton.

“We are thrilled to sign Allisha to a multi-year contract and to have her continue her WNBA career with the Dallas Wings,” President and CEO Greg Bibb said. “Having drafted Allisha in 2017, witnessed her win the WNBA Rookie-of-the-Year award that year and develop into an outstanding player in our League, re-signing her was our top priority this off-season. Allisha’s decision to commit to our organization is a testament to what we are building. Our future is bright, and Allisha Gray will play a key role for our team as we continue to grow and improve moving forward.”

This is the first move of an unknown number of possible moves for the Wings this off-season.

Here’s what the Wings re-signing Gray means, by the numbers:

  1. Had not only the best plus/minus (0.7) of any Wings player, but the only positive plus/minus of any player on the team.

  2. The third leading scorer for the Wings in 2020, averaging 13.1 points per game behind Satou Sabally (13.9) and Arike Ogunbowale (22.8).

  3. Was the Wings second most efficient 3-pt shooter in 2020 at 35.2 percent, behind only Marina Mabrey at 41.8 percent.

  4. Held a team-best 108.8 offensive rating, which ranks 12th in the WNBA in 2020.

  5. Most efficient shooter on the team from the field in 2020 at 46.4 percent.

Keeping Gray is something vital that the team had to handle early. It also opens things up for Dallas to make more specific moves on the free agency market and through trade. Free agency signings began today.

“I would like to thank Greg Bibb and the Dallas Wings organization for believing and having the confidence in me to help take our team to the next level,” Gray said. “From the time I entered the league, this organization and the city of Dallas have embraced me and I’m looking forward to showing them they made the right choice. I am excited about the future and cannot wait to get started.”

The Dallas Wings will host a virtual press conference via Zoom and streamed live on Facebook with Gray on Tuesday, February 2, at 3 p.m. ET, along with Bibb and head coach Vickie Johnson for the virtual event.
