Locked On Women’s Basketball: Atlanta Dream claim All-Star snub
Jackson: '[Jones] was definitely snubbed in the All-Star Game'
On the latest episode of Locked On Women’s Basketball, host Howard Megdal is joined by The Next’s Atlanta Dream beat writer Wilton Jackson to discuss the Atlanta Dream’s season. Specifically they talk about forward Brionna Jones, and question why she wasn’t given an All-Star nod. The two also discuss their thoughts on where the Dream are headed for the rest of the season. The episode also features conversations about the Golden State Valkyries and some New York Liberty updates, with The Next’s Liberty beat writer Jackie Powell contributing to the latter.

Megdal and Jackson start out their conversation by discussing the lack of Jones in the All-Star lineup. Jackson, who attended a recent Dream practice, remarked on how many members of the team were surprised at this omission. “She’s had a couple of off games here and there,” Jackson explains. “But other than that, she’s been [the] number one consistent player for the Dream all season, and … she was definitely snubbed in the All-Star Game.”
Later on, Megdal and Jackson discuss Dream guard Allisha Gray — specifically, why they think she’s so good. “Allisha Gray’s motor doesn’t stop,” Jackson says. “Anytime she’s on the court … if she doesn’t necessarily have the ball in her hands, she’s always cutting to try to find a way to get to the rim and either score or find a way to get her teammates involved.”

Megdal and Jackson close out the show by discussing what could be in the Dream’s future this season— specifically, if a championship is a possibility. “That’s something that’s still developing,” Jackson says. “I don’t want to get too high and say they can win a championship in their first season under coach Smesko.”
But, as Jackson acknowledges, when things go right for the Dream, they go really right. “They have the potential and the pieces to do it,” Jackson concludes.
