BREAKING NEWS: Dallas Wings hire Latricia Trammell as new head coach

First-time head coaching hire brings wealth of experience

Multiple sources tell The Next that Latricia Trammell, most recently assistant for the Los Angeles Sparks, will be the next head coach of the Dallas Wings.

It is expected that Trammell will sign a three-year deal, giving the Wings an important, respected voice in a locker room that has seen no shortage of turnover during the franchise’s time in Dallas.

Trammell succeeds Vickie Johnson, who was 32-36 over her two seasons with the Wings, but ran afoul of many players within the locker room, even amid a playoff run this past season.

Trammell’s calling card is defense, but she has succeeded with teams on both sides of the ball in a well-traveled career that’s included back-to-back NAIA titles at Oklahoma City University. But the momentum toward a head coaching gig reached critical mass over the past two offseasons, with Trammell receiving multiple interviews for openings in Phoenix and New York, along with consideration in multiple markets this fall.

Trammell will be tasked with taking a Wings team that finished fourth in offensive rating this past season, but ninth in defensive rating, and getting them to be more efficient at the defensive end.
