Missy and Matthew open the conversation by dissecting the teams up top that continue to dominate NCAA women’s basketball, starting with South Carolina. Missy reflects on South Carolina’s dominating win over UConn over the weekend, commenting that “they win games in multiple ways” and “nothing seems to surprise them.” Matthew agrees, acknowledging that South Carolina is shooting better threes than last year. “They have so much athleticism,” says Matthew, even without Cardoso, who was playing an olympic qualifier in Brazil, her home country. Missy and Matthew also talk through the Iowa Nebraska game, in which Clark did not ultimately break the all-time women’s scoring record. Per Matthew, it’s possible that Clark herself, or the whole team, was distracted by the chase to break the record, which may have contributed to the Iowa’s upset loss.

Missy and Matthew move onto discussing the new top 25 poll. One of these schools making a notable mid-February push, per Missy is Gonzaga. She describes the Gonzaga Bulldogs as some of the “quiet hunters in this top 25,” and wonders who, or what, could take them down. Matthew concurs, remarking that the team is winning games by “30 points or more.” But they’ll have some steep competition ahead of them, including No. 11 Oregon State.
