Locked On Women’s Basketball: Marc Mitchell is building another program at Indiana State

Mitchell joins host Howard Megdal to discuss goals in the Missouri Valley Conference

Mitchell begins his conversation with Howard by discussing the potential and draw of the Indiana State head coaching position.

“I just think that this place is a sleeping giant. I mean, we saw what the men’s program did last season, winning over 30 games, went to the NIT finals. … I was fortunate enough I went to the semifinals at Butler to see Indiana State play. … So when this came up and now that I have an opportunity to be here, I see the type of support that Indiana State has and all of those things. So I just want to bring some type of excitement, a winning culture,” Mitchell said.

Later, Mitchell discusses his approach to coaching in the current era of college basketball.

“I’m really big on relationships. If we can have a solid, solid relationship and a solid understanding of one another, I think that we can build this program very, very quickly. But yes, next season, next year, you know, having a full year under our belt and able to get into that transfer portal at an earlier time. And with the connections that I have, and my assistant coaches have as well — I think that we’re going to really change this program in a positive way.”
