Louisiana’s senior forward Ty’Reona Doucet was named preseason Player of the Year for the 2021-22 season. Last season, Doucet led the Ragin’ Cajuns to the program’s first-ever regular-season conference championship and the conference title game. Along the way she led the conference in field goal percentage (52.4 percent) and averaged nearly a double-double (10.8 points and 8.7 rebounds) in conference play. Doucet also led Louisiana in total rebounds (167) and blocks (36).

Troy on the rise

The mid-major Sun Belt Conference made some noise in the postseason last year as the 15-seed Troy women’s basketball program nearly pulled off an epic upset of the 2-seed Texas A&M in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Troy advanced to the 2021 NCAA tournament with a 73-65 win over Louisiana in the conference tournament championship game. The Trojans were then narrowly defeated by the 2011 NCAA champion Texas A&M Aggies by a score of 84-80. Troy was selected by the Sun Belt coaches as the preseason favorite to win the conference this season.

Sun Belt Conference play tips off on Dec. 30th. All teams will play a 16 game regular-season schedule and will participate in the 2022 Sun Belt women’s basketball championship at the Pensacola Bay Center in Pensacola, Florida from March 2-7, 2022.
