Locked on Women’s Basketball: Las Vegas Aces and Connecticut Sun WNBA Finals matchup is set, how did we get here?

Natalie and Matthew discuss last night's spicy semifinals game and preview the WNBA Finals

It’s Friday, and time for another episode of the Locked on Women’s Basketball podcast. This episode features guest host Natalie Heavren and Las Vegas Aces beat reporter Matthew Walter. They discuss last night’s spicy WNBA Semifinals game between the Connecticut Sun and Chicago Sky, which ended with a 72-63 Connecticut victory. The Sun now advance to the WNBA Finals where they will face the Las Vegas Aces.

A DeWanna Bonner and-1 with 3:46 remaining in regulation resulted in a heated exchange with the Sky’s Kahleah Copper that seemed to propel the Sun to a game-winning run. Because neither player was charged with a technical foul for extra-curricular pushing and jawing, Matthew Walter describes the exchange as “tech gate” and explains the way it impacted the trajectory of the game:

“They went on that big run after that. We’ll call it tech gate. And I think the funniest thing to me is, [Chicago Sky head coach] James Wade runs on the floor and should even got a technical foul himself, because he was a coach; not supposed to come on to the floor at that point…And then it just seemed to start to snowball and Chicago looked like a deer in the headlights, right? They just looked so stunned by everything that was happening and they couldn’t do anything right,” Walter said on the podcast.
