Locked on Women’s Basketball: Inside the Connecticut Sun’s busy November
Team president Jennifer Rizzotti hired a new coach and a new general manager and announced a promotion
The latest episode of Locked on Women’s Basketball features host Jackie Powell talking with our Connecticut Sun beat reporter, Jacqueline LeBlanc, about a busy month of November for the team. Team president Jennifer Rizzotti hired Stephanie White as head coach and Darius Taylor as general manager after former head coach and general manager Curt Miller departed for Los Angeles. In addition, former player Morgan Tuck was promoted to general manager.
Jacqueline shared what she heard at White’s introductory press conference about Connecticut’s style of play for 2023:
“Stephanie made it very clear kind of what her vision for the team is, and Jen Rizzotti and everyone else with the staff seemed pretty aligned. And it was really kind of a more up-tempo, free-flowing offense … In a couple of the years past seasons, the Connecticut Sun have really been kind of grit and grind, really defensively focused, really heavy in the paint, of course, with three All-Star post presences [Jonquel Jones, Brionna Jones and Alyssa Thomas] and then [guard/forward] DeWanna Bonner in there as well. So really kind of creating more spacing.
“Stephanie White also kind of talked about a four-out or maybe even a five-out system … What it really came down to is, it sounded like, being a little bit more guard-oriented.”
