With all of the talent on the roster, Jackie and Howard discuss if the Liberty have the potential to be the best WNBA team in history. Jackie contextualized a possible comparison to the Houston Comets by saying:
“I also think when you talk about the Houston Comets, we have to remember the talent level at the beginning of the WNBA’s inception was very different than how it is now. I’m not trying to shame the beginning of the WNBA I think we can still call it legendary and historic. But I think in the year of 2023 There’s just so much more talent in this league.”
When talking about the depth of the Liberty Howard said, “I mean, it’s like the Noah’s Ark of rosters. There’s two of everything.” The pair also discussed what went into the creation of the roster, including how the team is preparing for the future.
“I think what was interesting about [general manager Jonathan Kolb] and [head coach Sandy Brondello]’s part of the presser was they said, yes, this is a win now team, but we also want to be able to have enough balance of veterans and youth that we can sustain this for a long time,” Jackie said.
