It’s time for another episode of Locked On Women’s Basketball with Atlantic 10 beat reporter Natalie Heavren. Richmond forward Maggie Doogan and fifth-year coach Aaron Roussell joined Natalie to reflect on the Spiders’ 8-10 start and how they have developed since last year’s WNIT appearance.

She started the conversation by asking both guests about what is working so far for the Spiders who are coming off an overtime victory against Appalachian State.

“We have seven kids and maybe your potential 1000-point scorers and we can win games if one or two of them score zero points in a game,” Roussell said. “I think that’s sometimes easier as a coach than as a player to experience those games where maybe the box score is telling you you’re not having the game you’re supposed to have. But I can point to Siobhan Ryan, I can point to Addie Budnik some games where they haven’t they’ve scored probably under five points in their box, were still is okay.”

Richmond has been particularly effective from beyond the arc where the Spiders are shooting 37.5%. That mark leads the Atlantic 10 and the Spiders have a league-high 90 made threes through 10 games. Doogan leads the group with 21.

“We’re a very unselfish team, we move the ball, and we don’t really care whose name is, you know, in articles the next day or like in the newspaper, because we just want to win,” Doogan said. “So I think that definitely plays a big part in our success. And we take a lot of pride in just defense and not letting the other team get what they want, and take them out of their rotations.”
