Campbell took the job at TCU after two seasons as head coach at Sacramento State. Last season he led the Hornets to a program-record 25 wins and the team’s first NCAA Tournament appearance.

“Really it checked every box. First of all, the university aligns with my faith and my family, it’s a very prestigious, private high-academic university that right now is seeing success in the athletic department literally all across the board,” Campbell said, explaining why he took the job at TCU. “Fort Worth is an amazing town. Just this past two weeks it’s been fun to follow the baseball journey. And their last home game they were playing in front of 9,000 people. So Fort Worth just loves their Horned Frogs. … The academics, the resources, the community, it checked every box and I truly believe our staff has the opportunity to go out and recruit the most high-achieving young women from around the world.”

Campbell also talked about the culture he is working to build at TCU.

“We’re just trying to find humble, hungry, hardworking, talented young women. … And that trumps basketball,” he said. “You’ve got to get the locker room right, you’ve got to get your culture right. And you get alignment with those things, the basketball will take care of itself. And it’s really easy to just get focused and lost on the basketball part of things. But that’ll come and so really, our staff has been working their tail off to identify those players that fit that.”
