She Got Next, Episode 39: Pepper talks to Batouly Camara
'When the opportunity opened up, to come back and to serve, I said this is a no-brainer for me because it was such a transformative experience in my life'
Our fearless podcaster, Pepper Persley, has returned with her latest episode: a conversation with Batouly Camara.
Pepper and Coach Camara spoke about how it is being back at Blair Academy. Here is what coach Camara had to say regarding being the Head coach at Blair Academy for the girls’ basketball program:
“I had an amazing time here and amazing teammates who have become my family and I had a great coach. And when the opportunity opened up, to come back and to serve, I said this is a no-brainer for me because it was such a transformative experience in my life. And I said I would love the opportunity to do that even for a second. So it’s been amazing. It’s been so full circle. And it’s been great to be here.”
Coach Camara speaks about her perspective being back playing games and how grateful she is for those moments:
“It has been really interesting, you know, hearing different perspectives for me last year; I was overseas and playing basketball there and had that perspective. And here, the girls only had one game in their season. And so it is definitely a sense of gratitude for every game that we have. And for our fans to be able to go to games and just to train and compete. So that has been really fulfilling, to be able to play games and to compete and the girls are growing, the girls are having a lot of fun. But the biggest sense has been gratitude overall for the days that we have.”
Pepper asked coach Camara her coaching style and here is what she had to say:
“I still am a player’s coach. But I initially was a bit more calmer. And I feel like now that we’re in season, we have four games under our belt, I’ve realized I do raise my voice a bit. And I never expected myself to be that way.”
